History & Development
McGuffy began as a Manufacturers' Representative firm in 1952 - the Lynn McGuffy Company. Growth led to distribution of maintenance products and parts for all kinds of rotating equipment used in oil and gas production, refining, chemical processing, pipelines, power generation and marine applications.
In 1978, McGuffy expanded into the design and manufacture of Gas and Steam Turbine systems (exhaust stacks, custom silencers, housings and inlet/exhaust filters and housings).
McGuffy started manufacturing operations in 1980 as McGuffy Systems. Beginning with a dry type engine air filter, McGuffy simplified maintenance of large industrial engines. Throughout the 1980's, manufacturing capabilities expanded to include gas turbine air filter housings, exhaust silencers and complete intake filtration systems and enclosures. With the expansion of manufacturing and product lines, McGuffy Turbine Services was formed to further support industrial customers with maintenance, inspection and overhaul services for gas and steam turbines.
In 2005, the company was purchased by the current ownership, and a Gas Processing and Treating division was added, bringing together many professionals from across the industry, with a combined level of industry experience in excess of 400 man/years.
From 2005 to 2007, a Power Systems division was added to design and package aero-derivative Natural Gas and Dual fuel power units in the 2.2 MW to 10 MW Range, designed for use in “stranded gas” and remote locations. These units are based on the Rolls-Royce Allison 501 range of turbines.
In 2008, McGuffy Energy Services created a I&E/Controls contracting unit, with bases in Cypress, TX and East Texas, which provides electrical services to the Oil and Gas, Power Generation and Paper and Timber Industries and McGuffy's own skid and plant fabrication projects.
McGuffy continues to offer Energy-related services based at a 15,000 sq. ft. facility in Tomball, Texas, providing engineering design, fabrication and construction/commissioning of natural gas processing and treating plants, with pressure vessel and skid fabrication being performed at our Cypress facility.
